Hi everyone. Hi. Welcome back to our episode three. Of They Deserve, they Deserve to Know, know. Duh duh.
Britney:We're so excited to be here, you guys. You can't really tell because it's a sunny day in Los Angeles, but we are in LA now. We're in la. Surprise, surprise. Yes. Our last episode was about cities, and so we wanted to focus on doing this and. New backdrop. Yep. New backdrop dropped.. We flew out here just to film this. We had a huge itinerary this weekend. A friend had a boat party and we were very excited for Yes. This boat party and we decided just to come hang out our friend's house. Literally. This
Juan:is her beautiful view.
Britney:I know. I wonder, I hope you guys can see it, but we are. Quite literally the Los Angeles skyline. But today we are gonna do a little bit of a shorter one. As Juan said, we have a packed itinerary, LA's thriving, as you guys know. that said, we wanted to talk about a very important topic. We still wanna do our manic or spiral moment of the week And we're gonna talk a little bit about dressing at work. And how you guys can transition from wearing, you know, the cutesy tops to, being a business baddie.
Juan:Exactly How you can stand out with your outfit. So we're gonna debrief and also just like what it's like dressing up as a Gen Z versus like what we've seen with other generations. So we'll dive deeper into that, but let's get started. What is our spiral moment of the week?
Britney:Juan, you go first.
Juan:Oh my God. Okay. My spiral moment of the week. So our paychecks hit and we went shopping around here, the outlets in LA and I bought this Coach trench coat and it's so extra,, literally, guys, I'll put a picture of this trench coat, but it's just like crazy. I just thought it was very in brand for corporate, but it gives I'm about to slay. I'm gonna go over here and slay these meetings. So, that was my spiral moment. It was, it was, she was not, she was not cheap. But, you know, that's why we work. That's why we earn, so we can spend it and have fun.
Britney:yes, I love that. My spiral moment of the week was that I planned for two other vacations actually. So I am gonna be doing a Europe summer moment. I'm very excited to be doing that. and then I booked a New York trip also, so I will also be in New York for about two weeks. Actually, Juan will also be a part of that trip. We'll also be that so, but I will be there for a really long time. Half of our friends are now in New York, so we are, whenever I go, we are gonna be there for a couple of days. We'll be there, so definitely gonna have fun there, I think we bought a total of like eight flights, actually. So yeah, lots of flights, lots to be doing, but
Juan:lots of things we're gonna do this summer.
Britney:excited. but yeah, Juan, so let's start with this outfit. Okay. This
Juan:is my Coachella outfit. What I wore at Coachella. I don't know if you could tell, but it's a little See through. Just a little bit. I have like short shorts. On. I had this like bag fish, like a fish bag and they call it catch of the day.'cause it looks like I'm a net obviously. I'm the catch of the day with this fit.
Britney:Yeah, you are.
Juan:And then show is yours. What do you wearing?
Britney:So again, we are going to a boat party layer today. So I am wearing this dress. It's very cute, white. it's Pepper Mayo. I'm obsessed with their brand. and that's kind of the vibe for today. Love. It's just, you know, I'm catching Juan.
Juan:Yep. Oh, oh, thank you. Yeah. I'm like, okay, so
Britney:what would you wear to work is the question,
Juan:okay, would I wear this to work? So I was thinking about it. I think I would wear it to work, but I would wear like a white shirt underneath it, obviously. I'm not gonna be out here showing like skin like that. and I think this begged a bigger question of what's acceptable for work and what's not Exactly. Britney like, would you wear this to work?
Britney:I would not wear this to work. I would wear this on a Saturday to a boat party, but I would not wear this to work. And it's one of those things we mentioned earlier where it's like. We come from college, you know, you're wearing maybe a little something a little bit shorter for the Thursday night, you know, college night out, so whatever. And it's, it's up to you to really decide how you wanna build your capsule wardrobe, sort of. Mm-hmm. definitely would not where to work. but I do think that white and your neutrals and kind of having your capsule wardrobe, I think is really important just to kinda start getting some basics. Right. as you can tell, Juan and I are one for jewelry. We love accessories. Mm-hmm. Um, this is also. If y'all didn't, that's the theme, tell y'all is the theme. Exactly. And I feel like after you find your capsule wardrobe, and I will say a good way to find, I think just like really good outfits, basic outfits to start off with. definitely try out different apps, Pinterest, find some good like content creators including us. We'll also maybe do a little segment on like what we would wear to work.
Juan:Mm-hmm.
Britney:but yeah, or, you know,
Juan:something that's on the rise In tech, what I've seen is like people do rent the runway or like, those like subscription sites, like a lot of our friends are doing that and they'll like so many. Try a new fit, you know, and you get like five outfits and then you try it out and you can return it.
Britney:Yes. I think it's interesting. I'll say I did try Rent the Runway because through our company we got a like free trial run. And I did not like Rent the Runway. Why? I will say, I think it's, it's good if you're like 30 plus. I think the styles are a lot of like skirts and like maybe like, I don't know, just like pants.
Juan:I don't
Britney:know if it was very Gen Z, but that's my perspective. Mm. And if you try it out and you find good stuff, let us know. I think it's great for like summer parties or like long gowns. But I do think it's a really common thing for sure. Like renting clothes because a lot of our directors and like managers do that as well.
Juan:Yeah. Definitely. it's interesting, when we first joined, we were in a team with all Gen z, all really young people. And so you could tell the outfits were very different. there are some people that, show skin, wear crop tops, like boots and really high heel boots and stuff like that. which was like really interesting because then we would hear these comments of oh my gosh, that team always has their stomach out. Yeah. I don't wanna see
Britney:belly buttons, belly buttons, et cetera, et cetera,
Juan:Uhhuh. And so it was just like a different generation I feel, because like. For me, I literally think that's like awesome. You need to be unique. You need to be expressive and like at work, like you can do that. I agree. As long as it's professional and like you're not distracting, but like if you just wanna wear what. Is you like, I feel like that should be super, acceptable.
Britney:I agree. And I feel once you start to get some basics together, I think it's all about finding your style at work. And like, I think there is a way to do that and still be appropriate. You know, like Juan said, he'd wear this, but he'd wear this with a shirt under, you know? And then I think that'd be fine for work.
Juan:Exactly.
Britney:I think it's a matter of like also, find your way to be unique, unique as you like to say. and definitely just find something that makes you feel like you, so I know for me, I've always loved wearing like big earrings. Um, my friend. I'll plug her business below, but she does nails and so this is now like my third or fourth set now, and now picking people. I've become synonymous with having these like really cool nails at work. So yeah, I think it's all a matter of just like finding something that makes you feel you, makes you feel like you, and then other people start to like really like sympathize with like who you are. Yeah. Gravitate towards.
Juan:Yeah. And like for me, something I start doing is, like, I told my coworkers that every week, every day I have a new theme. And like it's just to make things more fun. Even if it's like the most basic thing. Like I'm like, okay, what's my theme for the day? So it'll be like, you know, like corporate bro or like. One day I'm like giving Army and so then every time I come in, my coworkers are like, oh my gosh, Juan, what's your theme for the week or for the day? And like they eat it up, you know? It's like, let's make it fun. Exactly.
Britney:And it becomes like a moment where people just start to like look forward to like what you're wearing, which I think is really cool. I think it's just a cool way to like. Again, find. What makes you feel like you? I think my nails are something that I started this year and like I've never stopped and I will continue to wear these press songs. Because I think it just, not only is it fun for me, it makes me feel more confident when I'm talking to my clients or like at work, but also like I feel like a badie. I love being able to talk about my nails. I think it's definitely, and the computer.
Juan:And you're like so loud, the Peter Griffin, you just, yeah.
Britney:literally.
Juan:I think also you need to discern like the situations that you're wearing, like certain things. True. Like for example, if I'm meeting a client in person, I'm not gonna wear shorts I'm gonna wear something a little bit more like buttoned up. Right. But like I'll always have my earrings on, for example. as a guy, I think less common to have like earrings. But like, I don't care. You know, I'm like, whatever. Like it's me. I'm not gonna change who I am.
Britney:And I'm gonna call it out too, because there's this really funny skit that I just saw, from SNL and it's about like how Corporate and like overall neutrals have come back. It's a lot of like white and like gray and brown, which is like, if that's your vibe, that's your vibe, you know? But I do think that's something that I think Gen Z and like we are really good at is that we love to wear color. So like I think it's a matter of also like being expressive. I think having color, I think it literally makes you stand out because everyone else is probably wearing brown, gray, white, et cetera, et cetera.
Juan:So if you're Gen Z. And you're afraid to go in the office, just be intentional about it, right? If you do wanna wear a crop top, know what is the consequence of that? And if you're gonna still like, willing to put up with that, right? If, let's say you have a very conservative team and you wanna wear your crop top, okay, know that's, you're gonna get some looks, but be intentional about it, right?
Britney:Exactly. And it just comes down to like really, again, like I think first and foremost, like just having that transition from college to post grad. Like honestly, the way I started too was just looking at like through my mom's closet and I stole a couple of button ups and that's kind of how I started. I think just finding like my more like professional style and then through time I think I just started tweaking things and I found like my earring, like my nails, my shoes. I think it just be all just becomes a matter of like what again? Makes you like stand out. And I think that that definitely comes with just like time and like also I think it helps you build internal confidence, which is awesome because if you do have an external facing role or even talking with teams, like I feel like it just makes you stand out even more.
Juan:totally.
Britney:Yeah. The only other thing I would mention is be professional, you guys. I think also like, you know, we're talking about it at a high level, you know, but definitely like if you were wearing a crop top, be prepared for some looks, but also like.
Juan:of like, we're thinking about, you know,
Britney:Yeah. Like, definitely show some intentionality there. and also
Juan:depends on your performance too, right? If you're a strong performer, I feel like you have a little bit more leniency to Be. You know, do things outside of the norm a little bit and like set the tone of how you want things to be. But if you're not performing well and you're showing up with like, you know, your belly button out, right? Like that's gonna obviously, like people are gonna be like, Hmm. Like I don't know if they're a great culture fit for our team. Yes. and so like always like think about like your core performance and like nailing that first. And I think that will give you a lot more like leniency and like, just like mentally, you feel a little more free to make decisions that are like out of the ordinary.
Britney:Absolutely. I agree.
Juan:Okay. what's our corporate tip of the week?
Britney:It's find something that makes you feel like you, whether it's accessories, whether it's like a certain like shoe, whatever it is, find like a color, find something fun and expressive. And I think go through TikTok, go through different apps, look at other people who like also have really cool style. I would say at our company there are a couple fashionistas in there I do think just having a conversation with people that you think dress nice and just asking them like, Hey, where is it that you guys shop? I think that helped me a lot. So I recommend you guys doing that as well.
Juan:I love that. I think for me, it's if you have a theme every day, people eat it up, right? Because people are not intent. Like sometimes people are not intentional about what they were at work. Like some people just don't. care, like show intentionality with that because they want to just dress up like outside of work, right? But if you come into work every day, oh, this is my fun theme of the week, and you're embracing it, like everyone's gonna be like, wow, that's so interesting. Like, what's your theme for the day? Right? And they're gonna ask you questions like, really great way to build rapport with your teammates. and it's helped me like, I feel like I have a strong relationship with my teammates'cause we always talk about fashion more. So it's fun.
Britney:I think there's like a quote or something and it's don't wait for like a special day to wear something nice. Like just wear it. And I feel like a lot of times, like you spend almost 40 hours like at your job, like you might as well wear it makes you feel good and if you have a special top you haven't worn out and it's appropriate for work, then wear it to work. And you will get so many compliments. I love. A white blazer moment. Like, I think it's so sick when you're wearing like a cool blazer or a cool coat that like Juan bought, for example. Like truly have the best time you guys and find whatever it makes you feel like you.
Juan:Mm-hmm. Or I'll wear my cowboy boots, that's another thing. Oh yeah. Cowboy boots for sure. Yeah. I'll wear like, really cool jackets. Like our Sunday school that we did, last week. I bring that to the office even though it's like all blue or all purple, like literally I don't care. Like. Yeah. And then people want to talk to me because of my outfits. They're like, oh wow. Like you're such a fashion baddie.
Britney:like the more and more you like build your brand, like people just start to come up to you. And I feel like it just because it like seems that you're expressive. You're obviously being intentional with what you're choosing to wear at work today. I think it just makes people also feel more comfortable about coming up to you and all. Yeah, totally. There's also like the heels at work moment too. If you like to wear heels, I feel like be confident and also do it. I, when I like first started like wearing boots, I felt so like subconscious about the noise and then like over time I was like, you know what? That empowers me to feel even like even more badass. I love that. So I definitely think that comes down to like, yeah, again, dude, just try it out and I promise you probably get a couple compliments and then you'll probably even feel more motivated to keep wearing some heels. Yeah. Lovely.
Juan:Well, this is fun. It's gonna be a shorter episode, y'all.'cause we gotta go catch an Uber to go to this boat and we're already a little bit late, so we love you so much. Please stay tuned. We have a lot more fun episodes this week. We were thinking of you and I hope that you, share with your friends and let us know what you want to hear next or if you have any, any tips about dressing up at work or any questions.
Britney:No, sounds good guys.
Juan:Okay, guys. Love you. Bye bye.
