So anyways, I spiraled, I bought for my client,[Mic bleed] name, but I bought for my client[Mic bleed] spiraled because tomorrow I'm going to Miami and I want it to look hella saucy. so we have a big topic to talk about[Mic bleed] So to give you all some context, marina was in our first team in our, the company that Brittany and I work at Woo. And she recently left and moved to Atlanta and had this big shift, So imagine going from big tech fang, right? Like getting all these cool benefits. And having a complete career shift moving to another city. and we wanted to have Marina on board, like first, she's one of our[Mic bleed] And second, I think it was just such an inspiring story. So they deserve to know. Tell us

Marina:

[Mic bleed] I was[Mic bleed] My worth[Mic bleed] my metrics weren't[Mic bleed] No, they were for, I was gonna say if I start feeling again, they were

Britney:

amazing. It made me gig.'cause I was like, no hun, you[Mic bleed] Yes, I was doing

Marina:

well.[Mic bleed] I got[Mic bleed]

Juan:

Got it all Together. Period.

Marina:

Started[Mic bleed] Hated it. So I got a new job in Atlanta,[Mic bleed] I thought my[Mic bleed] so I[Mic bleed] even more from it.

Britney:

Okay. So leaving a company in tech is a really big deal. Mm-hmm. I feel like people like dream about it.[Mic bleed] into tech. And the fact that you[Mic bleed] What[Mic bleed]

Marina:

really hard. I[Mic bleed] about.[Mic bleed] I was probably the[Mic bleed] I'll be[Mic bleed] but I[Mic bleed] I was[Mic bleed] not[Mic bleed] I made[Mic bleed] That was[Mic bleed] job,[Mic bleed] I'm not immigrant if Trump is listening to this.[Mic bleed] but it was hard.[Mic bleed] Yeah. so I. Did Harvard.'cause that was[Mic bleed] I'm going to Harvard. that's kind of what happened.[Mic bleed] But I will[Mic bleed] back long[Mic bleed] I'm very happy[Mic bleed] I'm[Mic bleed] especially[Mic bleed] you might know the struggle. You know, I was being yelled at like 24[Mic bleed] new job lined[Mic bleed] but when I got the[Mic bleed] happy.[Mic bleed] my life[Mic bleed]

So tell us more about that transition, right? How was it like in the first three, six and then nine

Marina:

[Mic bleed] three, I would say[Mic bleed] I'm not gonna lie, I was[Mic bleed] really dark[Mic bleed] happens to more people,[Mic bleed] then I just[Mic bleed] Course,[Mic bleed] some dog setting, so I was like around dogs all[Mic bleed]

It healed.

Marina:

[Mic bleed] and then I ended up going to[Mic bleed] they were supportive. So they're like, oh shit. Like let's support this girl. You know?

Britney:

And then they were like, what is that? And then I was like, well, it's like an AI generated image of an animal with an object. So like a cappuccino and a ballerina, and you have to memorize the name, A Gallina cappuccino. They were so embarrassed, but they loved it. They ate it up. So shout out leadership team.

Juan:

corporate tip of the week, I, yes, I think we're ready for it. I think corporate tip of the week should revolved around. Self-care, like how do you maintain self-care in the workplace and work-life balance? It is mental health awareness month.

Britney:

It is.

Juan:

Welcome to Mental Health Awareness Month. So, I think it, when you're working in corporate, it's really important for you to understand How to set boundaries, and for instance, we are client facing. And when we were in our first role, we received a lot of like emails from clients like all the time, right? And one thing that is really important, and it's understanding how to discern, how to prioritize which clients and[Mic bleed] should be responding the fastest to. But there are some clients that you know. It's gonna take a lot of time for you to respond and you responding right away might signal to them that you have all of that availability and that they can't do the work themselves. And oftentimes would lead you to like, you know, just work extra than you need to. And so corporates over the week is understanding boundaries and also saying the power of saying no sometimes.

Marina:

Always[Mic bleed][Mic bleed] So what I started doing[Mic bleed] and almost[Mic bleed] a the office episode[Mic bleed] home and I call my friends[Mic bleed] Oh, like Jim did this today and it was so funny. And I think once you make fun of[Mic bleed] job, obviously.[Mic bleed] Make a[Mic bleed] but[Mic bleed] if you're a doctor,[Mic bleed] But we're not saving lives,[Mic bleed] bit.[Mic bleed] little bit.[Mic bleed] I think[Mic bleed] I'm not[Mic bleed] Ugh,[Mic bleed] long day. It was[Mic bleed] let me call my friends and tell them about this character, what they did. and then I get[Mic bleed] think that also[Mic bleed]

Juan:

Totally. I think at the end of the day, a lot of people in corporate like to be[Mic bleed] And you need to just[Mic bleed] right? if everyone in your team is doing the same job,[Mic bleed] obviously[Mic bleed] doing that job every single day. So just make, have fun with it, right? Make it a fun environment. Something that is definitely undervalued or underappreciated and like a skill[Mic bleed] just[Mic bleed] fun I think is important.

Britney:

[Mic bleed] love,[Mic bleed] Mm-hmm.[Mic bleed] and I feel like whenever[Mic bleed]

Juan:

I do have one more tip to share, and this was from my first few months working. Sales. And in sales you're constantly[Mic bleed] people,? Because they want you to like always just continue over attaining right over your quota and do better every single quarter. and I really struggle with that because I was always used to being like, you know, some, like one of the top people. And when I first started, like I just wasn't,[Mic bleed] difficult learning the role. And so something that my therapist told me was.[Mic bleed] focus on the numbers, like tune out the numbers. in the beginning, once you feel you're very inadequate or you have imposter syndrome, tune out the numbers because that is just[Mic bleed] corporate's way to get you to work harder, or turn to[Mic bleed] your job, realize[Mic bleed] you, and like, not let that get to you. And I think once I started realizing that and numbers stop or like rankings. Charts,[Mic bleed] stop making less impact on my life. And I think that's when I started really like just getting much better and just focusing on how can I improve every day instead of looking at how I'm stacking

Marina:

[Mic bleed] doing really good. And now that I look[Mic bleed] But I was also comparing myself[Mic bleed] like,[Mic bleed] well, even though I was[Mic bleed] follow one's advice, you I[Mic bleed] But, it's a really[Mic bleed]

Juan:

But hey, you learned through Those life experiences and now you share with[Mic bleed] Not to know.

Marina:

When I was a[Mic bleed] like drum[Mic bleed] a little bit of nutritionist on the side, like I tried everything could[Mic bleed] I was[Mic bleed] everyone knew I would go to pickleball[Mic bleed] even though like at the beginning I didn't,[Mic bleed] now I have to do this. I have to play pickleball[Mic bleed] And then I did it and I loved it. Like it really helped me,[Mic bleed] life[Mic bleed] and I have friends that[Mic bleed] started[Mic bleed] And now they[Mic bleed] So[Mic bleed] weird[Mic bleed] you do it and like make yourself[Mic bleed] that person and you're just gonna have to do it. Because, because

that's embarrassing. We, that's embarrassing.

That's just embarrassing. So it's, yeah, it's just a way of like[Mic bleed]

Juan:

Love that. I feel the same way definitely, except I'll add the bonus of[Mic bleed] money on it, and then once you spend money on it, you're like, I can't go back. The money's in there. No, it's true. It's true, right? Like, look at this podcast. We have spent a lot of money on this podcast so worth it. But it's gonna be worth it, guys.
